About Wireless Freedom

Wireless Freedom is a web services company with an inclusive atmosphere. Our eCommerce platform caters to the wireless industry, giving our clients the ability to manage customer ordering, fulfillment and after sales service. Our team is fun to work with, and our office environment is casual.

We take pride in being a part of the Baka group of companies, who have taken on many green initiatives. Baka had one of the first solar car ports in North America installed at their head office. Baka partnered with Fresh City Farms in 2015 to grow local produce and reduce CO2 emissions, and we have initiatives to reduce waste.

Technology

Our back end is powered by our proprietary MVC framework built on the LAMP stack. Our front end is built to provide the best user experience, using the latest HTML and CSS features, while maintaining support for clients with older browsers.

Security

We adhere to PCI Data Security Standards. This includes the use of a secure software development life cycle, up to date encryption protocols, and more. We expect our developers take an interest in online security.

Software Architect / Software Engineer (LAMP, JavaScript, Bash)

Duration: Permanent
Location: Remote with occasional visits to our Head Office at 2475 Skymark Ave, Mississauga, ON
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 A.M. - 5:00 P.M EST
Salary: Competitive intermediate to senior level salary, based on skills and experience.
Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.

Summary

Wireless Freedom is seeking an individual who can lead projects on our eCommerce software platform. You will work closely with other developers and web designers.

Our ideal candidate has been individually responsible for creating and/or maintaining an eCommerce website for an employer. A self-starter, who likes to help people be more efficient and likes to keep up to date with best practices in software development. If you are confident enough to deliver production ready code, please consider applying to work with us.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of features and bug fixes.
• Communicate effectively.
• Ask a lot of "what if" questions and get feedback and answers from stakeholders.
• Document the requirements and constraints.
• Make sure your logic is sound and fringe cases are handled.
• Participate in code reviews.
• Provide input on development plans and initiatives.
• Help define deliverables and timelines.

Required Experience

• Postsecondary education in Computer Science, Engineering, the Sciences or Mathematics or equivalent experience.
• Efficient at writing code in PHP, SQL, JavaScript and HTML.
• Experience with SaaS architecture.
• Experience implementing interfaces, traits and other design patterns.
• Comfortable with regular expressions for validation and replacements.
• Experience designing normalized database tables and understanding why a database query might be inefficient.

Preferred:

• Experience with:
  • Server deployment and automation
  • MVC framework(s).
  • Git and/or Bitbucket.
  • Developing eCommerce applications.
  • Converting legacy applications to Laravel.
  • Third party integration (APIs and/or data import/export).
  • Implementing PCI Data Security Standards.
• Participating in online groups and discussions (e.g. Stack Overflow, LinkedIn, and Quora).

What you will be doing

You will help convert our legacy code to a modern framework. You will also work on features such as:

• Converting our live chat application to use web sockets instead of Ajax.
• Updating our image manager to have hybrid storage (local + cloud storage).
• Creating APIs for our cusotmers.
• Integrating with third party applications.

To ensure reliable, secure code releases, you will have certain policies and procedures to follow.
